Aurel Schmidt, Purple Magazine
If you know art darling/rebel/hero Aurel Schmidt, you’re probably familiar with some pretty disturbing imagery. She’s known and loved for her use of pitch-black symbolism in her insanely detailed and lovely drawings- maggots, rats, cigarette buts, frogs, snakes, tampons- you name it and she uses it to build shocking compositions, some of which were purchased by The Saatchi when she was just getting started.
Her newest series, MANEATER, doesn’t skimp on the creepy crawlies or the blatant genius- if anyone can bring back the artist as celebrity, it’s her.
